SAFE STUDENT DRIVING
Safe driving is always a concern in our very
busy lives. Accidents can, and do happen, often with catastrophic effects.
The SGI Graduated Licensing Program supports this concern for safety on our
roads, particularly in respect to new, inexperienced drivers, as they tend
to have more accidents than drivers with more experience.
Graduated Driver’s Licensing is a staged, or
tiered, introduction of new drivers into the driving environment.
Drivers gradually move into higher risk driving situations after gaining
experience in lower risk situations. The program replaces the Probationary
Drivers Program, which provided new drivers with full driving privileges and
which took action only after they were involved in collisions or received
traffic convictions. Graduated license programs work to save lives and
prevent injuries among new drivers. SGI is following the lead of other
provinces and is relying on their experiences to make our program more
effective.

COMMUNITY & PARENTAL SUPPORT FOR RESPONSIBLE
STUDENT DRIVING
The majority of our students that drive
vehicles to Greenall High School make safe driving choices when they are
behind the wheel. However, we do get reports from community members, as well
as witness, poor driving choices by some students that may prove to be
tragic at some point in the future. Therefore, Greenall High School, the
Balgonie Justice Committee, RCMP and various other community, educational
and justice stakeholders are meeting to dialogue about the community driving
and safety issues that exist as well as to develop plans and take actions to
make our streets as safe as they can be for all that walk, jog, bike, and
drive on them.
